The biological meaning of adult is a term used to describe an animal that is capable of reproducing. In the context of humans adults have implications that are based on the legal and social world. A legal adult, in contrast to "minors" (also known as non-adults), is someone who is over the age of majority and is consequently considered responsible, independent and autonomous.
